How to use
Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) should be taken orally, once a day, with or without food. Follow the instructions of your doctor carefully, even if they differ from the usually recommended dosage.

If you are taking any other cholesterol-lowering medication, you should avoid taking both medicines at the same time. Make sure you take Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after taking any of these medications.

Take Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) regularly, to enjoy its maximum benefits. Keep taking this medication for the full time prescribed, even if you are not experiencing any symptoms. Most people with high cholesterol do not feel sick.

Overdose

If you suspect an overdose of Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin), you should contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services immediately.

Notes
Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is a supplement, not a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise. You will only be able to enjoy the maximum benefits of this medication, if you stick to a healthy lifestyle and eating plan.

Do not share this medication with others, as they may have a condition that is not effectively treated by Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin).

Missed Dose
If you miss a dosage of Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin), take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if you are close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not attempt to double up on this medication to make up for a missed dose.

Storage
Store Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) at room temperature (77 degrees F, 25 degrees C) and away from light and moisture. KEEP THIS DRUG AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Precautions
Before taking Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin), inform your doctor of your medical history, including:

Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is classed as Pregnancy Category X by the FDA, which means it is known to harm un unborn baby. You should not use this medication when pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to a nursing infant, it is not recommended to take this medication while breastfeeding. Inform your doctor before taking these pills if you are currently breastfeeding a baby.

Drug Interactions
The following medicines may interact with this medication. Tell your doctor before you start taking Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin), if you are also using any of the below:

• Igoxin
• Telithromycin

This is only a partial list and other medication may interact with Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin). Inform your doctor of all prescription and non-prescription medication you use, including herbal pills, dietary supplements, vitamins and medication prescribed to you by other doctors. Do not start or stop any course of medication without discussing it with your doctor first.

Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) may potentially cause the following common side effects:

• Mild abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Fatigue
• Gas
• Heartburn
• Headache

Infrequently, this medication may cause muscle problems (which can ultimately lead to a very serious condition called Rhabdomyolysis). Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness)
• Change in the amount of urine

Generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) may rarely cause liver problems. If you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects, tell your doctor immediately:

• Yellowing eyes or skin
• Dark urine
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain
• Persistent nausea or vomiting

In very rare cases, some people could experience a severe allergic reaction to this medication. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms:

• Rash
• Itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue or throat)
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing

This is not a complete list of potential side effects and others may occur. Let your doctor know straightaway if you notice any other side effects than the ones mentioned above, especially if they are bothersome.
