Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is a general antibiotic, which can be used against a wide variety of bacterial infections. It works by slowing the growth of bacteria in the body and is commonly used for the treatment of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, fevers from ticks, typhus, rickettsial pox and Q fever as well as the treatment of bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontitis (gum disease) and others. In addition, Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) can be effectively used to treat uncomplicated rectal infections, cervical infections and urethral infections and sexually transmitted infections like non-gonococcal urethritis or Granuloma infections.

How to use Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is taken orally with a full glass of water. You should sit upright for at least 30 minutes after administration to prevent irritation of the esophagus and stomach. There is also a slim risk of liver damage during prolonged use of this medication. If you suffer a stomach upset, nausea or fatigue after taking Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate), it is recommended that you start taking this medication together with a small meal that doesn't contain any dairy products.
Overdose It is strongly advised that only the recommended dosages of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) are taken. An overdose of this medication can cause serious symptoms and reactions. If you suspect you have taken too much of this medication, you should contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services immediately.
Missed dose If you miss a dose of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate), you should take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, put it off for several hours after taking the missed dose. Especially if you are taking one dose a day, take the next one 10 to 12 hours after the missed dose. If you are taking two doses a day, take the next one 5 to 6 hours after the missed dose. If you are taking three doses a day, take the next one 2 to 4 hours after the missed dose. Then resume your regular schedule. Do not double up on this medication to try and make up for a missed dose.
Notes Do not share Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) with others, since they may have a problem that is not effectively treated by this medication.
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is meant for the treatment of bacterial infections only. It should not be used to treat viral infections.
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is not approved for use by children under the age of 8. It can cause permanent yellowing or graying of the teeth and can inhibit bone growth in premature infants during the treatment period. The latter side effect will disappear when you stop using this medication. Specific exceptions are made for potentially fatal illnesses, where the benefits outweigh the risks and there are few or no other alternatives, for instance in case of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Anthrax.
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) should not be used by women who are pregnant or nursing, as this medication can cause damage to a fetus or nursing child.
Storage Store Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) and away from light and moisture. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Inform your doctor before taking Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) if you suffer from a liver or kidney disease. If this is the case, you may not be able to take this medication or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
If you are using Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) to treat gonorrhea, your physician may want to test you for other sexually transmitted diseases.
If you have asthma or are allergic to sulfites, you should talk to your doctor first, before using Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate).
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is classed by the FDA as Pregnancy Category D. This means that it can potentially harm and unborn baby. It could also cause permanent discolouration of the teeth later on in the child's life. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment.
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) can pass into breast milk and may affect the teeth and bones of a nursing child. Talk to your doctor first if you plan on taking this medication while breastfeeding. In general, children under the age of 8 should not take this medication.
Long-term us of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) for the treatment of Malaria Prophylaxis increases the risk of photosensitive skin reactions, which can cause permanent thin and sensitive skin. Similarly, this medication may make you more prone to sunburn. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen when going outside.
Drug Interactions
Before taking Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate), inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:
- Cholesterol-lowering medications such as Cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran) or Colestipol (Colestid)
- Isotretinoin (Accutane)
- Tretinoin (Renova, Retin-A, Vesanoid)
- An antacid such as Tums, Rolaids, Milk of Magnesia, Maalox, and others
- A product that contains bismuth subsalicylate such as Pepto-Bismol
- Minerals such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and over-the-counter vitamin and mineral supplements
- A blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin)
- An antibiotic from the penicillin family such as Amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox, others), Penicillin (BeePen-VK, Pen-Vee K, Veetids, others), Dicloxacillin (Dynapen), Oxacillin (Bactocill) and others

What are the recommended dosages of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate)?
The recommended dosage of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) for most types of bacterial infections in adults is 100mg to 200mg per day for 7 to 14 days. For chronic (long-term) or more serious infections, treatment can be carried out for a longer time.
For the treatment of children ages eight or older, your healthcare provider will prescribe a Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) dosage based on a weight chart, usually about 1 to 2mg per pound of body weight per day. The dose is divided and taken for 7 to 14 days. Children should generally be limited to 200mg or less of this medication per day.
The recommended dosage of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) for preventing malaria is 100mg daily for adults. For children, the dosage is 2mg per kilogram of body weight (about 0.9 mg per pound), without exceeding 100mg per day.

Can Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) be used for the treatment of Malaria Prophylaxis?
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) can be taken for the prevention of Malaria on foreign trips. Start taking the pills a day or two prior to travel and keep using it throughout your stay in the area of concern. After your return, you should continue to take the medication for 28 days. Never use Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) for longer than a total duration of 4 months.

Can I use Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) during pregnancy?
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) should not be used when you are pregnant as it can damage developing teeth during the last stages of pregnancy. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) also passes into breast milk and can affect a nursing child. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished.

Can I drink alcohol while using Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate)?
There are no known adverse effects when mixing alcohol and Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate). However, people who drink heavily or have a history of alcohol abuse will eliminate the Doxycycline from their system more quickly than healthy patients. In these cases, a higher dosage of Generic Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) may be necessary and perhaps the medication may have to be taken twice a day.
