How to use

Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) should be taken by mouth, usually once per day in the evening. You can take this medication with or without food. Follow the instructions of your doctor exactly, even if they differ from the usually recommended dosage.

If you are also taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines, you should not take them at the same time as Generic Zocor (Simvastatin). Take Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) 1 hour before and 4 hours after taking any other medications intended to lower cholesterol.

Take Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) regularly and at evenly spaced intervals to enjoy its maximum benefits. Do not stop taking this medication without approval from your doctor, even if you feel better. Most patients with high cholesterol do not feel sick.

Overdose

If you suspect you have taken too much Generic Zocor (Simvastatin), you should contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services immediately.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Generic Zocor (Simvastatin), take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dosage, skip the missed dose, then continue with your regular schedule. Do not double up on this medication to make up for a missed dose.

Notes
Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) will only achieve its maximum effect in combination with a change in lifestyle, including plenty of exercise and a healthy eating plan.

Do not share this medication with others as they may have a condition that is not effectively treated by Generic Zocor (Simvastatin).

Storage

Store Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) at room temperature (77 degrees F, 25 degrees C) and away from light and moisture. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Precautions

Before taking Generic Zocor (Simvastatin), you should tell your doctor if you suffer or have ever suffered from:

• Any allergies
• Liver or kidney diseases
• History of alcohol abuse

If you have ever had any of the above conditions, you may not be able to take Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) or you may need a dosage adjustment.

Elderly people may be more sensitive to certain side effects of this medication, such as muscle problems. Therefore, caution is advised when Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) is used by anyone in this age group.

Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) is classed as Pregnancy Category X by the FDA, which means it is known to harm un unborn baby. You should not use this medication when pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to a nursing infant, it is not recommended to take this medication while breastfeeding. Inform your doctor before taking these pills if you are currently breastfeeding a baby.

Drug Interactions
Before taking Generic Zocor (Simvastatin), let your doctor know if you are also taking any of the following medications:

• Blood thinners (e.g. Warfarin)
• Digoxin
• Azole antifungals (such as Itraconazole, Ketoconazole)
• Delavirdine
• Macrolide antibiotics (such as Clarithromycin, Erythromycin)
• Nefazodone
• HIV protease inhibitors (such as Nelfinavir, Ritonavir)
• Telithromycin

This is only a partial list and other medicines may interact with Generic Zocor (Simvastatin). Inform your doctor of all prescription and non-prescription medication you use, including herbal pills, dietary supplements, vitamins and medicines prescribed by other doctors. Do not stop or start taking any medication without talking to your doctor first.

Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) may potentially cause the following common side effects:

• Mild abdominal pain
• Headaches

Less common possible side effects of Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) include:

• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Gas
• Muscle weakness with rash
• Nausea
• Upper respiratory infection
• Upset stomach
• General weakness

Notify your doctor promptly if any of the above side effects persists or worsen.

Infrequently, Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) may cause muscle problems (which could lead to a serious condition called Rhabdomyolysis). Inform your doctor straightaway if you notice any of the following symptoms:

• Muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness)
• Change in the amount of urine

In rare cases, Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) may cause liver problem. Let your doctor now immediately if you experience any of the following rare but serious side effects:

• Yellowing of the eyes or skin
• Dark urine
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain
• Persistent nausea or vomiting

Very rarely, patients may experience a severe allergic reaction to Generic Zocor (Simvastatin). Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms:

• Rash
• Itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue or throat)
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing

This is only a partial list and other side effects may occur. Let your doctor know straightaway if you experience any other side effects than the ones mentioned above, especially if they are bothersome.
